Red X marks the spot

THE Mount Barker Red Cross shop and unit recently received two grants – one from the Mt Barker Co-op grant to buy two sheds, and the Plantagenet shire, to assist with the cost of rubbish removal.

Store manager Franceine Gregory said that the sheds helped to de-clutter the shop’s back room and make conditions easier for volunteers.

“We thank Jared and the team from Pardelup for erecting the sheds,” Ms Gregory said.

Red Cross has had a shop in Mt Barker since 1973, when a group of dedicated members and their husbands set up the first store.

Over the years it moved around, until, in 1986 it opened in its present location in “the very red building” on Mt Barker road.

“Customers have made it a great success, and our volunteers now have a great place to work,” Ms Gregory said.
