DENMARK seems to keep producing star soccer players, the latest being Zara Whooley, 17, who has been awarded the women’s premier league fairest and best award for 2019.
The Great Southern Soccer Association held its windup and awards night on September 27 at the pavilion on North road, Albany, adjacent to the soccer grounds.
Zara won the award for the second year in a row.
She shared the award last season but this year was the sole recipient.
Like a true champ Zara was not content with one win, so she also took out the Loveridge Award for the player who polled most votes across all women’s competitions.
It capped off an amazing year for Zara and her team, which went through the whole season undefeated.
Not to be totally eclipsed, another Denmark soccer hotshot, Ebony Thomas, also 17, won the league’s Golden Boot award, having scored an impressive 21 goals for the season.
The Port Albany team helped Ebony to win the award, by letting her score no less than six goals against them in one game.
So watch out, Sam Kerr – the girls from Denmark are coming for your crown!
