EACH spring the Cycling Touring Association of WA (CTA) organises a week-long On Your Bike tour.
The fully supported tour visits country areas of the State, and this year invites you to join its 31st annual event and explore the wonders and delights of the ‘Southern ranges’.
The tour will start and finish at Kendenup.
During the week participants will experience a wide range of scenery, from Mount Lindesay national park to Denmark, then east along the coastline and beautiful beaches to Albany, from where it heads north to the majestic Porongurups national park and then Stirling Range national park, before returning to Kendenup.
Throughout the tour you will experience the wonderful colours of the region’s beautiful wildflowers on show at this time of year.
The tour is supported by two vehicles which provide morning tea and mechanical assistance during each day’s ride, and a truck which carries tents and personal luggage from one campsite to the next.
Campsites are usually sports grounds or caravan parks, with the evening meals provided by local organisations.
A self-serve continental breakfast is laid out in the mornings – keep an eye out for the porridge, which has become a tradition!
CTA is a not-for-profit recreational cycling club which organises a wide variety of recreational and social rides for its members, including short and long day-rides, weekend trips, and longer tours of a week or more.
Annual bike tours have been held since 1989, to encourage Western Australians and visitors to tour the beautiful countryside, forests and coastline, promote cycling as a healthy, non-polluting and above all enjoyable form of exercise, and to keep costs to a minimum while offering a high standard of support and catering.
Group size is limited to 130.
There is still time to join the ride, by going to www.ctawa.asn.au/ or calling tour leader Tony on 0408 955 908.
