No convenience at civic centre

THE public toilets at the rear of the civic centre will be closed until at least November 9.

The toilets, which are heavily used by visitors and locals alike, were vandalised earlier this month, with mirrors and floor tiles being smashed, and a pedestal and cistern broken.

Shire acting CEO David Schober said that he was aware that had been growing criticism for some time in the community about the deteriorating condition of the facilities.

He would not comment on the possibility that lack of action by the shire had led to the recent damage being done.

Mr Schober admitted that the shire had given inadequate advance warning of the closure, apart from signs on the doors leading to the toilets.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this has caused, but a major overhaul is now under way that will make permanent improvements to the facilities,” he said.
